On Friday, our Rodgers Stingray community came together to honor the lives lost, the heroes who served, and the spirit of unity that emerged following the events of September 11, 2001.

More than twenty-five years later, the lessons of that day remain as important as ever. While many of our students were not yet born when these events occurred, it is our responsibility to ensure they understand not only the history, but also the values that emerged in the aftermath: courage, selflessness, compassion, and service to others.

Throughout the day, students had meaningful opportunities to learn, reflect, and connect. One of the most impactful activities was a schoolwide letter-writing project honoring a local 9/11 first responder and survivor. Students took time to express their gratitude, appreciation, and admiration for an individual who demonstrated extraordinary courage during one of our nation's most difficult moments.

Together, Rodgers students wrote more than 300 letters that will be presented to this local hero. Through their words, students demonstrated empathy, respect, and a genuine appreciation for the sacrifices made by first responders and everyday citizens who answered the call to serve others.

Students also heard stories and reflections from their teachers, helping them better understand how that day affected individuals, families, and communities across our nation. These personal conversations provided powerful learning experiences that extended well beyond any textbook lesson.

As part of our tribute, members of the Rodgers Leadership Team shared a special message over the intercom reminding students and staff that while September 11th was a day of tragedy, September 12th became a day of unity. Americans from every background came together to support one another, care for their neighbors, and demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity.

That message connects directly to our school theme this year: ALL IN.

At Rodgers, being ALL IN means choosing unity over division, compassion over indifference, and service over self-interest. It means looking out for one another, supporting those in need, and recognizing that we are stronger when we work together.

Throughout the morning, our Deputy shared brief announcements recognizing each significant moment associated with the attacks. As those moments were announced, Mr. Schultz performed Taps, creating a solemn and powerful tribute that allowed our school community to pause, reflect, and remember. The music served as a reminder of the lives lost, the courage displayed, and the sacrifices made by countless individuals who stepped forward to help others.

The experience was both moving and meaningful. It reminded us that life is precious and that every day presents an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of those around us.

As we reflect on the events of September 11th, we also celebrate the values that helped our nation heal: service, unity, resilience, and compassion. These same principles continue to guide us at Rodgers Middle Magnet School.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community members who helped make this tribute so meaningful. We are especially proud of our students for demonstrating kindness, gratitude, and respect throughout the day.

Together, we will continue to honor the legacy of those we remember by living out the values that matter most.

At Rodgers, we are ALL IN for Service.

ALL IN for Unity.

ALL IN for Compassion.

ALL IN for Each Other.

Never forget. Always remember. Continue to serve. 💙🖤🤍🩶
