Lillian Symmes Elementary is named after Lillian Shelfer Symmes, who began her Florida teaching career in 1923 not far from her birthplace in the tiny panhandle town of Havana, Gadsden County, near Tallahassee.
What does she ask of the students at “Her” school?“ Learn to respect your teachers and each other and try to keep your school as new and clean and shiny as you can. Take pride in it”

Welcome to Symmes, Home of the Sharks! My name is Anna Rothenbush and I am the proud Principal here at Symmes. Our school is named after Ms. Lillian Symmes, who was a dedicated educator in the Riverview area for many years. At Symmes we strive to work together as a community to ensure all students are successful. There are many opportunities for our families to play an active role in our school community. We hope you will join our PTA and join us at our many family events throughout the year! It's Great to be a Shark!!
