Principal's Message

Cara von Ancken, principal

Welcome to a new school year! As proud Dragons, we celebrate the whole child, honoring each student’s identity, culture, and unique talents. This is my 13th year at Roland Park, and it continues to be a joy to lead a community so deeply rooted in care, curiosity, and connection. Through inquiry-based learning with real-world application, we empower internationally minded students to think critically and embrace who they are. Together, we’ll continue building a school where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired.

Let’s make this a remarkable year, Dragons! Building a Culture of Care- Mrs. von Ancken

The Roland Park Media Center is the true hub of our campus for students. Every day our students are present in the Media Center for classes, book check-out, group work, clubs and so much more. We are so lucky to have updated and renovated this space to make it an inviting and exciting place for our students to spend time every day!

Roland Park's first annual Global Parade was a huge success! Our students and teachers researched and learned about a variety of parades around the world and what they celebrate. They created floats and paraded around our track to share the celebrations from around the world.

8th Grade Service-Learning Trip to Costa Rica

In June, a group of our 8th-grade students set off on an adventure of a lifetime to Costa Rica for a week! These adventurous travelers created so many amazing adventures! They ziplined at Arenal Volcano, visited the Doka Coffee Plantation, shopped in local markets, visited local hot springs, and kayaked across a lake. They also had the opportunity to do community service at an animal rescue and in a small community focused on taking care of the environment. These students grew as individuals and made memories to last a lifetime! This year, our 8th grade students will head to Thailand in June for their international service-learning opportunity!

Programs

Roland Park offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Program (MYP).

IB PYP Programme

PYP Programme

All Kindergarten through 5th-grade students are part of the IB Primary Years Programme at Roland Park. The PYP programme offers an inquiry-based education to our learners that encourages conceptual understanding. Students learn through 6 transdisciplinary units that are written by the grade level teams to better understand the world around them. The programme inspires global thinking and encourages all students to take action and make a difference in the world.
IB MYP Programme

MYP Programme

All 6th through 8th grade students participate in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). This program allows students to participate in units that take their learning beyond the basics and encourage global thinking. Students are challenged to think critically and problem solve to help create a better world. This programs culminates in our 8th grade students participating in a community project that allows them to make a difference in their local community by using the skills they have learned in the classroom.
