Uniforms FAQ
What are the specific color and style options? We have designed this policy to be as flexible and affordable as possible:
Tops (Solid)
T-shirts, Polo, button-down, etc.
Colors (Solid): Royal Blue, Navy Blue, White, Yellow, or Gold
Logos: While Nelson logo wear is a great way to show spirit, it is not mandatory. No other outside logos or writing will be permitted.
Bottoms (No tears/rips)
Jeans, Shorts, Pants, Capris, Skirts, Skorts, Dresses, or Jumpers
Colors (Solid): Jeans, Khaki, Navy Blue or Black
Notes: We are offering a wide variety of clothing styles for your student's comfort and preference. Students can wear jeans every day as part of the uniform policy.
Can students really wear jeans every day? Yes! We know comfort is a priority for our students. Jeans without tears/rips are a standard part of the daily uniform under this proposal.
Can my child wear a regular T-shirt? Yes! The policy is flexible and includes solid-colored Polos, T-shirts, and button-down shirts.
Is the Nelson logo required? No. While shirts with the official Nelson Elementary logo are encouraged, they are not mandatory. However, no other logos, writing, or graphics are permitted on clothing.
Will uniforms be more expensive than regular clothes? Information from other "A" and "B" schools in the district show that uniforms are generally more affordable than expensive name-brand clothing. For example, Wal Mart regularly sells solid-colored shirts for $5.00/shirt.
What if the cost of uniforms is a burden for my family? Nelson Elementary is 100% committed to supporting our families. We will provide uniforms directly to students in need, facilitate a "uniform recycling" program for gently used items, and partner with local businesses to provide financial support. Contact our Student Services team for more information.
Will Nelson host Spirit Weeks and dress-down days? Absolutely. We love seeing our Eagles express themselves! We plan to host several "Theme Weeks" and special spirit days throughout the year, allowing students to take a break from their uniforms and enjoy fun, different outfits.
