ELL Strategies

At Marshall Middle Magnet IB World School, we believe that family support is the heart of student success. Every conversation, every word of encouragement, and every shared learning moment helps our students grow stronger — academically and emotionally.

Even if English isn’t your first language, you play a powerful role in your child’s learning. Simple actions like reading together, asking questions about their day, or celebrating their progress make a big difference. Using both English and your home language helps strengthen your child’s confidence, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.

Here are a few easy ways to support your child at home:

  • Read together — in English, your home language, or both.

  • Talk daily about what they learned in class.

  • Celebrate effort, not perfection — every small step counts!

  • Use school tools like Microsoft Immersive Reader, Canvas, to practice listening and reading.
