New Worlds Reading Program Logo

Did you know Florida offers a free at-home literacy program to help young readers build confidence and strengthen their reading skills?

New Worlds Reading is a statewide initiative designed to support students in VPK through 5th grade who may need additional reading support. The program helps encourage a lifelong love of reading by sending books and resources directly to students at home.

What do students receive?

Eligible students enrolled in New Worlds Reading receive:

  • 9 free books each school year through 5th grade

  • Reading activities and guides to help families support literacy at home

  • Books available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Braille

Who is eligible?

  • Students may qualify if they are enrolled in a Florida VPK program, public school, or charter school and are not yet meeting grade-level expectations in reading.

  • There is no income requirement to participate. Once enrolled, students remain in the program through 5th grade.

Families can apply and check eligibility by visiting the New Worlds website (https://www.newworldsreading.com/en/enrollment/?eml=NWRI/district/20260113/Hillsborough/Eng).

Even if your child does not currently qualify, we encourage families to apply. If a student becomes eligible later, they will automatically begin receiving books and activities.

For additional literacy resources, families can visit our district website or view the state’s Read-At-Home Plan Resources Guide (English - https://bit.ly/4vOEIZw | Spanish - https://bit.ly/48ZMoxU).

We encourage families to take advantage of these opportunities to support reading at home. Together, we can help every student become a more confident, strong reader!
