Did you know Florida offers a free at-home literacy program to help young readers build confidence and strengthen their reading skills?
New Worlds Reading is a statewide initiative designed to support students in VPK through 5th grade who may need additional reading support. The program helps encourage a lifelong love of reading by sending books and resources directly to students at home.
What do students receive?
Eligible students enrolled in New Worlds Reading receive:
9 free books each school year through 5th grade
Reading activities and guides to help families support literacy at home
Books available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Braille
Who is eligible?
Students may qualify if they are enrolled in a Florida VPK program, public school, or charter school and are not yet meeting grade-level expectations in reading.
There is no income requirement to participate. Once enrolled, students remain in the program through 5th grade.
Families can apply and check eligibility by visiting the New Worlds website (https://www.newworldsreading.com/en/enrollment/?eml=NWRI/district/20260113/Hillsborough/Eng).
Even if your child does not currently qualify, we encourage families to apply. If a student becomes eligible later, they will automatically begin receiving books and activities.
For additional literacy resources, families can visit our district website or view the state’s Read-At-Home Plan Resources Guide (English - https://bit.ly/4vOEIZw | Spanish - https://bit.ly/48ZMoxU).
We encourage families to take advantage of these opportunities to support reading at home. Together, we can help every student become a more confident, strong reader!
