AUTHORS AND HISTORICAL FIGURES WEEK: FEBRUARY 10-13
Monday: Read Aloud Monday Dress as your favorite author Teachers or guest readers share books by Black authors, such as Jacqueline Woodson or Langston Hughes.
Tuesday: Poetry Slam Focus on Black poets such as Maya Angelou, or other Black poets and allow students to write their own poems inspired by themes of equality or resilience.
Wednesday: "Dress as Your Favorite Historical Figure " Morning announcements feature Black pioneers in various fields (e.g., Mae Jemison, Thurgood Marshall).
Thursday: "I Have a Dream " Wall Students write their own dreams for the future and display them in a hallway.
MUSIC THROUGH THE DECADES WEEK: FEBRUARY 17-21
Tuesday: "Roaring 20s Jazz Day " Dress in 1920s-inspired outfits like flapper dresses, suspenders, bow ties, and fedoras to celebrate jazz legends like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.
Wednesday: Wear 1960s attire, including bright colors, bell-bottoms, and headbands, to celebrate Motown artists like Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, and Stevie Wonder.
Thursday: "70s Disco Day " Get groovy in 1970s disco looks with platform shoes, sequins, and wide-collared shirts, representing artists like Donna Summer and Earth, Wind & Fire.
