Consider the Octopus Book

The Consider the Octopus Book Club brings students together around a shared love of reading, curiosity, and ocean science. Through this small-group book club, students build literacy skills, discussion confidence, and critical thinking while exploring themes of friendship, communication, and environmental stewardship inspired by Consider the Octopus.

The club meets weekly to read, discuss, and engage in creative, hands-on activities connected to the book’s science and real-world environmental issues. Along the way, students practice thoughtful conversation, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of how humans and marine ecosystems are connected.

At the end of the book, students complete a culminating project that allows them to express their learning through creativity, research, or advocacy. The experience concludes with a field trip to the Florida Aquarium, where students connect the story to real marine animals, conservation efforts, and STEM careers.

This book club is designed to foster a love of reading, meaningful peer connection, and a deeper sense of responsibility for our oceans.
