We are thrilled to officially launch Kids and Canines at Dowdell Middle Magnet School! This unique, heart-centered program blends leadership development, empathy, and responsibility through powerful partnerships between students and specially trained dogs.
Interest was high and students were eager to participate were asked to submit an essay explaining why they felt they would be a great fit for the program, reflecting on commitment, compassion, and personal growth. During our first session, something magical happened: the dogs helped make the final matches. Shaggy, Skooby, Chewbacca, and Logan each chose the student they wanted to work with, creating instant connections built on trust and instinct.
Through Kids and Canines, students will develop confidence, emotional awareness, communication skills, and leadership-learning alongside their canine partners in a way that is both joyful and deeply meaningful. Yesterday’s visit was just the beginning of many moments that will shape character, connection, and community.
