Today in Scouts, we had an honest and meaningful conversation about stress-what causes it and how our students manage it. They were incredibly open in sharing their experiences. Common stressors included homework, family expectations, and friendships-exactly the kinds of challenges we’d expect at this age.
Students also shared the strategies they use to cope: getting extra sleep, playing basketball, listening to music, or doing something physical to release energy. Their insight and self-awareness were genuinely impressive.
To honor these healthy strategies, we created sensory bags as a hands-on activity they can repeat at home. Many students said the process felt calming and satisfying. They especially enjoyed choosing their bead colors and noticing the soothing texture once the bags were complete.
This was a grounded, reflective session, and a great reminder that building emotional resilience is just as important as building outdoor skills.
