What is Title I Part A?
-
Title I Part A is a federal program that helps ensure all children receive a high-quality education. The program provides additional resources for schools with high percentages of children from low-income families. These funds support efforts to improve teaching and learning across the entire school, so that all students can meet state academic standards.
To help meet this goal, eligible schools implement a Title I Schoolwide Program, which supports every student and focuses on improving student academic achievement.

What is a Title I Schoolwide Program?
-
A Title I Schoolwide Program (SWP) is a whole-school approach to improve learning for all students. While it benefits every child at the school, it especially focuses on helping students who need extra academic support. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state academic standards.
How Does Title I Support My Child’s School?
-
Title I funding provides identified schools with additional resources to enhance teaching and learning. In Hillsborough County Public Schools, this includes:
- Additional teachers and instructional coaches
- Extra classroom materials and supplies
- More time for teachers to plan and receive training
- After-school and extended learning opportunities for students
- Substitute teachers so staff can attend professional learning
- Access to educational software and student learning tools
- Technology and equipment like laptops, interactive screens, and musical instruments
How Are Parents and Families Engaged?
-
Parents and families play a key role in student success. Title I supports Parent and Family Engagement, which means schools work closely with families to support learning both at school and at home.
Each Title I school develops a Parent and Family Engagement Plan, which describes how the school will:
- Partner with families
- Share information about academic progress
- Involve parents in school planning and decision-making
- Support learning at home through events and resources
How Does Title I Support School Improvement?
-
Title I funds help schools create and carry out plans that improve teaching and learning for all students. This process includes several important steps:
- Identifying student needs through an annual comprehensive needs assessment
- Reviewing data to better understand strengths and areas for improvement
- Developing a School Improvement Plan focused on helping students succeed
- Implementing programs and strategies that address the school’s specific needs
- Monitoring and evaluating progress to make sure the strategies are working and adjusting as needed
By following this process and partnering with families along the way, Title I schools work to create learning environments where every student can thrive.
