September 15, 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the heroic action by a 1943 Hillsborough High School alumni, our school namesake, whom went on to graduate from the U. S. Naval Academy.
Lt. Baldomero Lopez, USMC, received the Medal of Honor posthumously, by President Truman, for his heroic action taken against the enemy aggressors during the Inchon invasion in Korea on September 15, 1950.
Baldomero Lopez, born August 23, 1925, here in Tampa, FL. He was affectionally called "Baldy" and is remembered in many ways throughout the community. The 25-year-old has been honored by alumni at Hillsborough High School each year...and by the many community memorials/markers including Lopez Elementary School in Seffner, a historical marker on Marion and Madison downtown; a trophy case next to the Principal’s office at Hillsborough High School; the Lopez Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Land O’ Lakes; a shrine in the main lobby of his childhood club, the Centro Asturiano Clubhouse at Palm and Nebraska; a naval Pre Position Ship named the Lt. Baldomero Lopez; a memorial monument at the Ed Radice Sports Complex; and his gravesite at the Centro Asturiano Memorial Cemetery on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. just east of 50th Street.

mySpot is now available for parent account registration for Canvas. If a parent has previously used mySPOT for their Edsby account, they do not need to register a new parent account for Canvas. If you have a parent who needs support with their account, please direct them to call the Technical Support Helpline at 813-272-4786. The previous number is no longer available.
Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud to announce the release of the Canvas Family Guide. This guide provides parents and guardians with helpful information for using Canvas to support and monitor student academic progress. Canvas is the District's new learning management system (LMS) and will replace Edsby. A Learning Management System (LMS) simplifies teaching and learning by connecting the digital tools teachers, students, and parents use in one place. This guide has been created for parents and guardians and includes information about the Canvas Learning Management System and general instructions for using Canvas as a parent/observer. Canvas provides a variety of benefits for our teachers, students, and parents which are mentioned below:
Teachers will use Canvas to:
• Receive and grade student assignments, discussions, and quizzes.
• Easily align assignments and rubrics to standards and learning objectives.
• Provide students with written, audio, or video feedback and multiple revision/submission opportunities.
• Organize all work and course-related events into one, drag-and-drop calendar.
Push course notifications to students via email and text.
Students will use Canvas to:
• Access class materials (calendar, assignments, quizzes, etc.) online using any device or any browser.
• Track their progress through ongoing teacher feedback tools.
• Receive course announcements, grade notifications, etc. instantaneously on their preferred device(s).
Easily collaborate with peers and teachers.
Parents can use Canvas to:
• Review upcoming or past assignments
• Check on grades
• Receive alerts for student activity
Communicate with teachers
By engaging in the modules found in the Canvas Family Guide, the potential for parents to participate in their children's education dramatically improves. Parents will be able to increase their knowledge of Canvas by navigating through the following modules:
