Letters: A-F | G-L | M-R | S-X | Y-Z
Dear Families,
Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It allows young readers to develop their reading comprehension and decode new words as they read. Phonics helps children hear, identify, and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language. With practice, this action becomes so automatic they are able to easily understand the overall meaning of words while they are reading.
Come along and learn with Hillsborough County Public Schools as we explore each letter of the alphabet as we See It, Sign It, Say It, Find It, Build It, and Write It! These educational videos were conceptualized by current HCPS Board Chair, Nadia Combs, and were created using early learning reading experts from across Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Our Learning Letters videos include local restaurants, businesses, and attractions from the Tampa Bay area to make them more relatable to our youngest readers. There is also a link to an online story book read aloud that highlights the focused letter and sound(s) under each Learning Letters video.
Our goal through Learning Letters is to make learning phonics relevant and fun, as well as to build a strong foundation for early literacy skills!
