African American History Task Force

HCPS is proud to announce its African American History Task Force

  • Why: The purpose of the Task Force is to further champion African American History curriculum throughout the district by creating new and exciting educational opportunities spanning all grade levels.  

    Who: The diverse Task Force is comprised of district administrators, educators, students and members of the Tampa Bay community. The Task Force was sparked by a collaboration between education advocate Fred Hearns and Board Chair Lynn Gray.

    What: New district-wide initiatives will include:

    • A collaboration with Hillsborough Community College for potential Dual Enrollment courses in African and African American History
    • New “Thurgood Marshall African & African American History Clubs” at school sites
    • Sponsor and support annual HABSE African American History Brain Bowl for all 6th – 12th grade students
