Tampa, Fl. (August 5, 2022) – The United States has seen one of the biggest waves of Cuban migrants to the United States since 1980. Experts estimate approximately 20,000 families will arrive in Tampa Bay, creating an influx of new students in our school district.

In an effort to support the immigrant community as they settle into their new homes, Hillsborough County Public Schools will set up a temporary Immigration School Registration and Welcome Center. This will be located at Leto Adult Center (7010 N. Manhattan Ave) from Monday August 8, through Wednesday August 10th. The center will operate from 9:00 am- 5:00 pm.

The media is invited to Leto Adult Center to see the services offered to families on Monday, August 8 at 11:00am. We will have employees who speak both English and Spanish to discuss how this center will help families who are transitioning into our area.

“Hillsborough County Public Schools stands ready to welcome these families with open arms as we provide a variety of crucial supports to ensure their success. We celebrate our diversity as one of the largest school districts in the country and hope this is a simple way to help transition families into our welcoming community,” said Superintendent Addison Davis.

The services provided will include registration, enrollment, physicals and immunizations, and community resources. If families have questions, they can call 813-769-2123 or email DEI@hcps.net.
