CARIBE for Refugees
-
The CARIBE Program is an Adult Education project funded by the State Department of Children and Families (DCF). The program provides support and direction to refugees and asylees in eliminating barriers to employment through English Language Instruction (ELI) and Adult Basic Skills (ABE).
The CARIBE Program maintains multiple adult schools in the county, each with a state-of-the-art computer lab, utilizing on-line resources to assist students with English language acquisition, adult basic skills instruction and workplace readiness. Each school offers in-person, online and blended class options.
CARIBE also offers bilingual Integrated Education and Training (IET) Programs at select locations. IET is an accelerated program that blends adult education, workforce preparation, and workforce training into one solid program that promotes the likelihood of success in passing licensure examinations, gaining employment or moving into higher education. In this program, students in Spanish or bilingual career training programs are concurrently enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or basic skills classes to support the mastery of career training competencies.
Eligible students may receive adult education services, tuition/testing vouchers, school supplies, textbooks, transportation assistance and counseling services for career technical and adult programs across the district.
