English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program

  • The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program at the Adult Education Department, Hillsborough County Public Schools is designed to provide academic, social, cultural, and support services to adult English Language Learners (ELL) who desire to improve their English language proficiency.

Classes offered include: literacy skills to students who are not proficient in their native language, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening and academic English classes to teach academic skills necessary for students to enroll in post‐secondary education.

Our ESOL programs are conveniently designed to provide instruction through face‐to‐face and traditional classroom experiences.

The Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) test is used to determine English language proficiency and students are placed into our programs based on their individual performance levels.

Students participating in our ESOL programs may also take advantage of our Family Literacy program that allows their children up to the age of five to attend classes also.

Anyone wishing to volunteer in our ESOL classrooms, please review information regarding our Adult Volunteers program.

Courses are available mornings, afternoons and evenings. If you are interested in attending classes, visit a site near you (list of sites). Once you have selected a site, please visit or call to schedule an appointment to discuss your available options.
