Junior USO Club -
Our Mission: Supporting military students and spreading awareness of military culture on Sumner HS campus.
Members of the Junior USO Club will be meeting with new enrolled or transferred military students. Some of the tasks they will have will be showing these new students around campus, eating lunch with them, and generally supporting these students' transition to Sumner HS. The Club will be supporting Month of the Military Family, Veterans Day, and Month of the Military child (Nov and April) with various activities. The Club will also collaborate with the Climate and Culture Resource teacher and SGA to facilitate our Fun Friday initiative at Sumner. Junior USO Club members will wear purple on these days when assisting around campus.
Exceptional Student Education
Families can contact Amy Kryko at amy.kryko@hcps.net or Hope Lutz at hope.lutz@hcps.net with questions regarding Exceptional Student Education. If you are transitioning to the area and have questions about services in Hillsborough County Public Schools, contact the Choice Information Line at 813-272-4692 and identify yourself as a transitioning military family to connect with the Exceptional Student Education Department.
Mental Health Resources
There are many challenges military students face due to their unique situation, such as having a parent deployed for extended periods of time, changing schools, and leaving friends. Your child’s School Student Services staff which includes our School Counselor and School Social Worker can provide support and share resources to assist during these challenging times. Families can also visit the HCPS Mental Health Matters site for additional resources.Contact Venetia Waters, MAFB’s School Liaison Officer to connect your child or a family member to a Military Family Life Counselor.
