Program Overview & Courses Offered

• Pre-AICE Drama - a Theatre 1 course in preparation for AICE Drama, which includes theatre history and performance basics; the course ends with a class performance
• AICE Drama AS - Cambridge's first level drama course which includes a study of theater genres, script writing, characterization, and play analysis
• AICE Drama A - Cambridge's second level drama course which includes script writing, an individual performance, and a theatre research project of the student's choice 
• Tech Theatre Design and Production - students learn the basic of all technical aspects of stage production: lighting, sound, music, sets, props, costuming, and makeup
• Tech Theatre Sets and Props - students learn the basics of set and prop design and creation
• Tech Stage Management and Direction - students focus their learning and practice on stage management and student directing
• Musical Theatre - students study aspects of musical theatre and work together to produce a musical production as a class

Over the last five years, Sumner High School's Theatre program has produced sixteen shows, which is a spectacular feat, especially considering our first year was in the midst of Covid. We completed our last show of the 2024-25 school year, The Little Mermaid, with seventy cast members, and a packed house each night!

We are hosting our first summer camp this year and are looking forward to seeing that outreach grow as well. See information under Announcements.
