    Summer is the PERFECT time to read a GREAT book!  Here's how:

     pl  Have you been craving a hard-copy book?  The brand-new Riverview Public Library is OPEN!  Hours 10 - 6, Monday through Saturday.  Their address is 9951 Balm-Riverview Road, Riverview, FL 33569.  Not only are print books available for check out, they will be offering some neat summer programs!  Please check their website at Riverview Public Library.  (When the cooler months arrive, you may see Mrs. Selner enjoying the library's Reading Porch!)

     hp Hillsborough County Public Library continues their HAAL Pass program through which all Hillsborough County Public School (HCPS) students may check out Overdrive e-books and audiobooks, Hoopla comics and graphic novels, and Flipster magazines.  Log into HAAL Pass using your student ID number and the pin number 4321.  (If you have a library card, you have access with that, as well.

    hcps  Our amazing Hillsborough County Public Schools offers FREE access to e-books through Axis 360 and myON.  Multiple copies of books are available through Axis 360, and myON is now downloadable to your device (myOn-English; myOn-Spanish) so that you are able to read offline.

    What should I read?

     HCPS Library Media Services has developed a list of suggested authors and books that may give you a start in selecting your summer reading - English; Spanish

       The State of Florida publishes a yearly list of books in its Sunshine State Young Readers Award, a reading motivational program.  HCPS uses these 15 books in its Student Literacy and Media (SLAM) program.  (We're looking forward to a return of Rodgers' SLAM fun with our students in the Fall, so get a head start!)  Annotated List with short descriptions of each book.

    Reading Challenges and Contests

    You can win some neat prizes and earn points for next year by participating in the following reading challenges and contests.  Remember, you can find books at the Public Library AND in Axis 360!

    Rodgers Middle Magnet School has TWO Summer Reading Programs/Challenges! 

      1) 2021 Summer Reading Project - Begin 2021-22 with extra credit in your English/Language Arts class!  See the flyer and the Response Menu.   

      2)  2021 SLAM in the Summer - Read an SSYRA/SLAM book for your 2021 Summer Reading Project, then send Mrs. Selner an e-mail (116621@hcps.net) with the title and author of the book and your summary/opinion of at least 3 complete sentences.  When school begins, you'll receive a dog tag for each book you've read, your name will be entered on our SLAM Reader Poster, and you have a chance to win a gift card based on the number of SLAM books you've read!
