      Program Description
      The Baking & Pastry Arts program prepares students to function professionally and profitably in the food service and hospitality industry. Training provided offers coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Hospitality & Tourism career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Hospitality & Tourism career cluster.

      The content includes but is not limited to preparation, presentation, and serving of a wide variety of baked and dessert goods; leadership, communication skills, employability skills, and safe/efficient work practices are also covered. 

      Employment/Career Opportunities
      This program prepares students for employment entry level employment in the foodservice/hospitality industry as well as educational paraprofessionals, instructional coordinators, teacher aides, or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in this occupation.

      NOTE: A history of felony convictions or substance abuse may affect your ability to gain employment in this field. 

      Salaries
      Salaries for entry-level positions range from $33,280 - $37,440 per year in the Tampa Bay area.

      Program Cost
      The estimated total program cost is $2700.00, which includes tuition, estimated books, supplies, and fees. See Erwin Technical College Summary Sheet for current cost information. Financial aid is available for qualifying students.  

      Program Standards
      Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) score of 239 in Reading, and 236 in Math are required prior to graduation (some exemptions apply). For current CASIS schedule, see our website or call Erwin Technical College.
