• Career Education Basic Skills Requirement & Assessment

Florida Statute requires students who enroll in a career program of 450 hours or more to complete an entry-level examination within the first six weeks after admission into the program. The examination is designed to assess student mastery of basic skills. This is what we call a "basic skills" requirement and assessment.

Hillsborough Technical Colleges use the CASAS test for basic skills assessment.

In order to receive a career or technical certificate, students enrolled in programs of 450 clock hours or more, will need to meet the specific CASAS requirements for their program.

Students who do not achieve the minimum level of basic skills required for completion of their program will not be awarded a Career Certificate.
