  • About the Vet. Assisting Program

    The program trains students to assist veterinarians and other animal care professionals.  Students will gain experience in animal care and husbandry, grooming, proper restraint methods, laboratory skills, parasitology, and animal preventive health care.

    The program utilizes computer modules from Animal Care Technologies (ACT) program, lecture, and classroom and lab activities to train students. In addition to the 750 classroom hours, students are required by the Florida Veterinary Medical Association to complete a required skills list and an additional 250 experiential hours in a veterinary hospital.

    Upon successful completion of the program, students will be qualified to take the industry certification exam through the FVMA to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA).

    Program Length

    750 clock hours - approximately 8 to 9 months

    Class Schedule

    Classes are held Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    Admissions Requirements

    • Standard high school diploma or GED
    • Basic Skills Graduation Requirement:
