• Attendance Policy

Contact with a parent/guardian is necessary to establish the reason for all absences, but the Student Affairs Office has the final authority to determine whether an absence will be considered excused.

Receiving class assignments will be allowed if the student is out of school for 5 days or more, and if the request is made by the parents through the Student Affairs Office and if the teacher is notified at least 24 hours in advance.

The complete HCPS Student Code of Conduct with full attendance policy can be found at this link.

    Reporting a Student Absence

To report a student's absence as excused, a parent/guardian must call the attendance line at 813-744-8108 and select option 1  on the day of the absence but no later than three (3) business days after the absence.  If, after the three business days, the absence will remain unexcused.

A student must be in class at least one-half of the class period to be counted as present in class, otherwise the student will be marked absent from class.

Parents must provide accurate telephone contact numbers (home, cell and work for parents and legal guardians) and ensure the number(s) are up to date if there is a change during the school year.

This contact information must be provided on the Emergency Contact Card provided by the school at the beginning of the school year and updated as changes occur.

These contact numbers will be used by the school to communicate regarding student absences and tardies to individual classes.

    Pre-Arranged Absences

When a student requests permission for an absence from school, a phone call from the parent requesting this permission must be approved in the Student Affairs Office.  A three-day advanced notice is required prior to the absence.

A prearranged absence form will be given to the student if the student is absent for an extended period of time.  The student must have the form signed by their teachers whose classes will be missed and the form must be returned prior to the absence to the secretary in the Student Affairs Office.
