Double Accelerated Math Program for Incoming 6th Graders UPDATE!!!
Attention rising 6th grade families planning to take the double accellerated math test: due to circumstances beyond our control we have to change the testing date. The new date will be June 4th from 1:30-3:30. Please reach out to Mr. Stingone, APC, with any questions. Robert.Stingone@hcps.net
This program is designed for students who meet the following factors when determining suitability for acceleration:· Performance on district, state, or other standardized assessment(s);· Coursework completed and grade point average;· Attendance and conduct record; and· Recommendations from a core-curricula teacher and school counselor.Students who participate in this program will be placed in Grade 7 Accelerated Math as a 6th grader, Algebra 1 Honors as a 7th grader, and Geometry Honors as an 8th grader. Successful students in this program will complete two honors-level high school mathematics courses before entering high school. Due to the rigor of the course work, the school, teacher, and parents should work closely to understand the process and requirements for students in this program. If you are interested in this opportunity, there will be a parent informational night with the administration at Barrington Middle School to answer any questions before students sign up to test. This informational night will be on May 14, at 6 p.m. in the Barrington cafeteria. If your student scored a 4 or a 5 on their FAST Math for the last 2 years, your student may be opt to take a placement exam that will allow them to forgo taking 6th grade accelerated Math if they pass. If you have a student who qualifies and is scheduled to attend Barrington, they should be receiving an invitation letter at their elementary school soon. The registration portion must be returned to the school and received by Barrington by May 14 so your student may participatein the test that will take place at Barrington in the cafeteria on May 17th at 9:00 AM andlast approximately 2 hours. Please complete the application if you are interested in taking part in this program. The application should be returned to your child’s current math teacher at their elementary school by May 9. You may email robert.stingone@hcps.net if you have any questions.Thank youRobert StingoneAPCBarrington Middle School -
