Where Young Men Achieve Greatness

  • The Boys Preparatory Academy at Franklin Middle Magnet, just north of historic Ybor City, is a Magnet Schools of America Distinguished School. We promote academic achievement, professionalism and self-confidence. Our young men prepare for college in a technology-rich environment with a robotics makerspace, Smartboards and iPads available for every student. Scholar Quest offerings lead to high school credit in courses like Math, Criminal Justice and Computer Science. Students connect through competitive sports teams and free after school Enrichment Academies including Debate, Golf and Model UN. Through Electives, our students sample a range of courses—including one of Hillsborough's only middle school Law Studies programs—then pursue what best sparks their interests. Students also give back, partnering with Southeastern Guide Dogs to raise future service animals. Our Sixth Grade Structure helps young men transition to this single-gender learning environment. Each student joins one of three "houses," with strong mentors and new friendships. Our vision: Molding young men of distinction who will achieve greatness.

Houses System at BPA

  • Through BPA's cultivated college preparatory culture, students gain an understanding of principles of fraternity houses by being inducted into one of three “Houses” on campus. These Houses meet bi-weekly in mentor groups to provide students with opportunities to collaborate with a team of peers who are assigned to a teacher who serves as a mentor. Houses serve as a foundation for collaboration and relationship building. Through the House system, students develop according to the BPA Creed, Scholar Prep Profile and Cambridge Attributes. Each mentor meeting focuses on the nine core values to help mentees become better communicators with an emphasis on the importance of service, civility, and leadership. Each week, Houses participate in physical and academic competitions in order to put the core values into practice in a fun and engaging way.

SCHOOL HISTORY

  • The Boys Preparatory Academy opened alongside the Girls Preparatory Academy in 2011 and offers a college preparatory culture in a single gender environment. Students work in a technology rich learning environment where teachers guide instruction with Smartboards in every classroom and where students use iPads to participate in a rigorous curriculum. The focus on academic excellence promotes achievement, pre-AP readiness, professionalism, self-confidence and motivation in a stimulating atmosphere that prepares young men for success and allows them to grow as leaders while developing a positive self image. After school, students have the opportunity to extend their learning and expand their horizons through Enrichment Academies that include Debate, Model United Nations, Strategic Games, Golf, Academic Tutorials and other programs based on student interests.

Our Vision: Molding young men of distinction who will achieve greatness.

Our Mission: In a single gender environment, we will deliver an Education which will inspire and empower young men to master rigorous academic standards by instilling in them a strong work ethic and expecting them to model core values in both school and community.

Our Creed: I will become a man of Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Integrity, Confidence, Perseverance, Courtesy, Good Judgment and Good Sportsmanship. I will become this man.
