School History

  • Seffner Elementary is a neighborhood school that is rich in traditions and boasts having generations of families attend over the years. Seffner Elementary is located in the central northeast of Hillsborough County. Seffner serves as a suburban haven for commuters. Characterized by towering live oak trees and lakes, this town has grown rapidly. Housing subdivisions now span the once rural landscape.

Seffner Elementary’s mascot is the Mustangs, and our school colors are blue and white. We team with our parents and local community businesses to provide all students with the highest quality educational experience. We strive to equip, empower, and enrich every student every day as we prepare them to be independent thinkers and problem-solvers ready for tomorrow’s challenges. We have a variety of activities offered, including: Chorus, Chess club, Basketball club, Math bowl teams, BHM bowl team, Green team, and Run club.

The first Seffner School was constructed in 1866 and was named after Mr. F. P. Seffner, one of the leading citizens of his day in this area. In 1915, land was donated by Mr. J.M. Branch and the small school was replaced by a two-storied, three-room building. This building still stands and is now the Seffner Civic Center.

In 1961 Mrs. Aldine Griffin, Seffner’s principal, presided over the opening ceremony of the present Seffner Elementary School, which boasted 10 classrooms, a cafeteria and an office suite at its new (current) location. In 1967 Mr. Zeno Stalnaker was the principal of Seffner Elementary when the second phase of construction was completed. Seffner gained 24 classrooms, a storage room, a library, a physical education office and a multipurpose room. Seffner continued to grow and, in 1991, Seffner Elementary was again transformed with a large renovation and expansion. The improvements included a Kindergarten wing, an ESE resource building and much more.
