Blake’s Harp program was established and designed to allow students to learn the harp either from a beginner level or to continue studies from one of Hillsborough County’s Arts Magnet Middle Schools. The program provides students with small group instruction while providing our orchestras and bands with harpists of sufficient technical and musical skills to play the harp parts that are required in full orchestral and band works.
Students are provided highly individualized and thorough instruction along with weekly lessons, chamber music, harp ensemble and a comprehensive overview of all facets of harp playing.
Pam Irwin, Director, Harp
Pam Irwin is the harp teacher for Hillsborough County Magnet Performing Arts Schools (5 schools). She teaches elementary, middle and high school age harpists. She has been with the county since 2008 and has been a private teacher of the flute, harp and piano since 1995. Until 2020 she was an instrumentalist with Christ Central Presbyterian Church and worked with the music director and choir for over 11 years providing music for worship. She maintains a private studio and works as a freelance harpist for weddings and parties. She is a graduate of USF and Bowling Green State University (Ohio). During her tenure at Blake, several students have received a full scholarship to college in harp or using harp as part of their audition. One of our former students is now a graduate student teaching harp at James Madison University. Though the harp program is small, we have much to proud of from current and former students!
Once you have applied, you will receive an email with step-by-step instructions for your audition!
