Welcome Families!

Welcome Reddick Elementary families

A Message from Mrs. Norman

Aliya Norman, principal

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! As your principal, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all our returning students and families, as well as a special greeting to those of you who are new to our school community. I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer, filled with memorable moments!

Our dedicated staff has been working diligently over the summer months to prepare for the upcoming school year. We are excited to introduce new opportunities for our students to learn and grow. Our goal is to create a nurturing environment where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential.

We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are crucial for the success of our students. We encourage you to be actively involved in your child's education and school activities. Your support and collaboration are vital to creating a positive and enriching learning experience.

This year, we are on “A QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE.” We will continue to focus on academic excellence, character development, and fostering a sense of community and belonging. We have planned several events and activities throughout the year to engage and connect with our families. Please keep an eye on our school calendar and communications for updates and important information.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of our staff. We are here to support you and ensure that this school year is a successful and rewarding one for your child.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We are honored to have the opportunity to work with your family and look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

Let’s make it a great year!

This section of the newsletter will house important information for the 2024-2025 school year. Please review the information carefully. There are some new procedures implemented to ensure our students’ safety remains our top priority on campus.

Instructional Hours

Monday: 7:40am -12:55PM (early Release)

Tuesday - Friday: 7:40AM - 1:55PM

Students cannot be dropped off earlier than 7:10AM

Optional Uniforms

We are an optional uniform school. Students are sorted into our House System which has a color and theme. Our uniforms are plain, house color t-shirts or polos paired with khaki, navy, or jean bottoms (with no rips or tears). If students dress in uniform, they will earn points for their house.

In addition to plain shirts and polos in house colors, students can also wear Reddick spirit shirts in house colors. You can purchase spirit shirts in house colors on open house and through our online store (which opens two times a year).

If your student has not been sorted into their house yet, please contact the office and we will sort them. Your house color is always your house color with the exception of Pre-K students who are orange house until they are sorted in kindergarten.

Adults on Campus

In order to enter the front door, you must show a government issued ID. This is a requirement even if you are coming to fill out paperwork, for a meeting, etc. All adults on campus will be accounted for no matter the time of day. If you do not have a government issued ID, we will ask you to present one before allowing you through the front doors.

Hillsborough County Public Schools has a policy in place that any adult on campus while students are present must be approved through an application process. In our first day packet, you will find a section called YES which explains this process. (apply online). This school year, any parent on campus must have a YES form on file to be allowed in areas with students. This includes Terrific Kid ceremonies, RAYS award ceremonies, chaperoning, and volunteering.

I recommend all parents complete this form in the beginning of the year if you plan to attend any of the above mentioned activities. It can take a few weeks to be approved.

Arrival Procedures

Students will not be allowed on campus until 7:10am. Please make sure your students are not arriving to school earlier than that time-as it is a huge safety concern. Supervision of students by our staff will begin at 7:10am. Car riders must be dropped off in the car line. Parents should not park to drop off- unless there is a need to go into the office. Walkers should follow the sidewalk path where the crosswalk is located in the street. All students will enter the campus through the cafeteria. HeadStart parents are the only parents allowed to walk their students to class due to the requirements for sign-in. They will be given a unique pass to be shown at the cafeteria door signifying their allowed entry.

Dismissal Procedures

Student dismissal plans will come home in the first day packet for you to fill out. Changes for dismissal must be made in the morning by a parent/guardian with their ID (except for the case of extreme emergency). We cannot release students to anyone who is not listed on the emergency card. It is for this reason we recommend you list any person you might call in case of an emergency to pick up your student. You can write as many names as needed on the back of emergency cards. We will also not release students to anyone that does not have a government issued ID. Please make sure you or your designee always have an ID when picking up students- this includes walkers and bus riders.

Students who are zoned for Reddick Elementary that live more than two miles away will be eligible for a bus. More information on bus routes and bus passes can be found in the first day packet. All kindergarten bus riders must have a legal guardian present at the bus stop (with an ID) to receive their students or the bus driver will not release them.

Car rider parents must go through the car line. Please be patient. It is always a little slow at the beginning of the year. As our students, teachers, and parents learn our flow - our efficiency will improve. Pre-K parents will have their own pick-up line. Your teachers will detail these procedures for you.

Early sign-out will be stopped 30 minutes before dismissal. If you need to sign your child out early. Please make sure you do so before 12:25 on Mondays and 1:25 Tuesday-Friday. Remember to bring your ID or your child will not be released to you.

Communication

We value consistent communication between families and school staff. We know that in order to truly support our students- we must have a holistic approach that bridges the home and school life.

Throughout the year you will receive communication via HCPS ParentLink. Please make sure you do not block this number so you can receive all important information sent from the school or school district important for you to know. In addition, we will also be sending home a monthly parent newsletter to share updates from various departments on campus and guidance for how you can support your students at home.

All staff members can be reached via district e-mail which is available on our school webpage. You can also call the school and leave a message if needed. Please provide at least 24 hours for a response. All conferences must be scheduled. If you would like to set up a conference with a teacher, staff member, or administration, please reach out via email or phone to schedule a conference. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate walk-in appointments due to the demands of our instructional time. Every minute matters for our students, and our staff’s priority during instructional hours is the quality of instruction presented to them.

Some teachers utilize apps for parent communication or have class newsletters. It is not required that they have those. However, some form of consistent communication is expected - sharing positive news, behavior needs, updates on what students are learning, and important events.

We welcome your participation in our school community and are looking forward to collaborating with you this year as we propel our students in their academic and character growth.
