AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination

Kelly Villio: Site Coordinator, Elective Teacher

    Contact: Kelly.Villio@hcps.net

AVID is offered to students in grade 6 on the wheel. All students will have the opportunity to spend at least 10 days in the AVID classroom during their first semester to learn what the AVID elective is all about and how it can help become an even more successful student.  Sixth graders can then choose AVID as their elective for second semester where they will learn focus note-taking, collaborative skills, study skills, as well as communication skills to provide them with the support they need to achieve their academic and personal goals. Students in grade 7 and 8 need to apply for the AVID Elective and once they are accepted into the program, the course is a year long course where students will continue to work on their academic and social goals while incorporating tutorial groups two times per week to ensure they achieve mastery in their core academic classes by gaining help from their peers, the AVID teacher and AVID tutor.
