Beginning Band: An introduction to the basics of performing on a wind or percussion instrument. Students prepare for and participate in concerts, developing skills specific to the instrument they play. The course includes note reading, basic music vocabulary, and beginning music theory. In addition to listening to, describing, and performing music from a variety of cultures, students demonstrate a knowledge of performance etiquette and work together in an ensemble. *No experience necessary*
Band 2/3: An annual course that offers introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students will learn about the broad field of music, to read music, and become reasonably proficient in the use of one or more instruments. The level of student experience will be considered for the level of placement by the instructor.
Jazz Band 2/3 (must be co-enrolled in Band 2/3): Students will have the opportunity to learn a second instrument and will learn several musical styles including: rock, swing, funk, blues, and Latin. In addition to winds, a rhythm section is required, including drum set, electric bass, electric guitar, and piano. *Teacher approval required*
