Creative Sciences for Creative Learners

  • Young Middle Magnet's Creative Science Centre in East Tampa's College Hill neighborhood empowers creative learners with our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) STEM curriculum. We focus on Engineering, Sustainability and "Global Planting"—engaging students in hands-on learning opportunities with an on-campus hydroponic farm and greenhouse, along with student-constructed rain gardens. Spark new interests with PLTW Electives like Green Architecture, Magic of Electrons and Automation and Robotics. Scholar Quest high school level courses included unique offerings like Video Game Design and American Sign Language. Our Sixth Grade Structure helps students feel at home in their new learning environment. Young also boasts state-of-the-art technology like touch-enabled whiteboards in every classroom, seven technology labs and the opportunity to work with 3D printers. Young has been named a Magnet Schools of America School of Distinction. Our focus on Creative Sciences builds creative learners with real-world problem-solving skills.

School History

  • Photo of Nathan B. Young Nathan B. Young was opened as a Junior High School in January of 1964. Young Middle School reopened as a Math, Science and Technology Magnet School in 1999. In July of 2011, the theme was changed to Creative Science Centre along with neighboring Lockhart Elementary School. The two schools now serve as the Creative Science Center Upper and Lower Campuses. The school was named in honor of Nathan B. Young, a Florida educator, who served as President to Florida A & M University from 1901-1923. He is truly remembered for stating, "Young People, Prepare Yourselves, for the future is yours...if you are ready for it."
