Young Middle Magnet Creative Science Centre is located in East Tampa's College Hill neighborhood. Our school mascot is a Buffalo and our motto is "Engineering (+) Change". We focus on Global Planting, Global Sustainability and Global Engineering-- engaging students in real-world, hands-on opportunities. Our school is honored to be a 2020 Magnet Schools of America School of Distinction. Our academic offerings include Coding, Video Game Design and Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). We focus on a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) integrated approach to learning as we prepare students for life.
Nathan B. Young was opened as a Junior High School in January of 1964. Young Middle School reopened as a Math, Science and Technology Magnet School in 1999. In July of 2011, the theme was changed to Creative Science Centre along with neighboring Lockhart Elementary School. The two schools now serve as the Creative Science Center Upper and Lower Campuses. The school was named in honor of Nathan B. Young, a Florida educator, who served as President to Florida A & M University from 1901-1923. He is truly remembered for stating, "Young People, Prepare Yourselves, for the future is yours...if you are ready for it."
