Armwood High School is a public high school located in Seffner, Florida, on U.S. Highway 92. It opened in August 1984. The school is named after Blanche Armwood, a long-time Tampa resident, educator, and activist. She was the youngest daughter in an African-American family that homesteaded in the Seffner area during the 1870s. Blanche Armwood passed a state test for teachers at the early age of 12. She went to finish at Spelman Seminary in Atlanta at 16, earning an even more advanced teacher's certificate. In Tampa, she served as Supervisor of Negro Schools and executive secretary of the Tampa urban league. She earned a law degree from Howard University School of Law in 1938. Blanche Armwood died in 1939 at the age of 49.
The school's mascot is the Hawk. Armwood offers a Magnet Collegiate Academy that offers the students an opportunity to earn an AA degree from Hillsborough Community College alongside their High School diploma. The Collegiate Academy has won the coveted Magnet School of Excellence award three times in the last six years. Our athletics teams are consistently in the hunt for state championships, most notably our Nationally recognized football program. We offer Dual Enrollment credits for almost every upper-level subject. We pride ourselves in our clubs and organizations that consistently offer approximately 1200 service hours a year. Some of our clubs earn District, State, and International Awards consistently year in and year out. Most notably are our DECA club, Key Club, Agriculture, Cyber Security, and eSports. We focus on preparing our students for careers for life.
