Welcome to the Hugo Schmidt Library!
My name is Erin Lugo, and I am the media specialist here at Hugo Schmidt. I am so excited to spend this year with you. We will have some fun library events and programs this year.
Welcome back! September has been an exciting month in the library! Grades 2-5 did library lessons learning how to add books that the kids are reading onto the Beanstack account. Beanstack is an online reading log to help students track their reading. Students have the opportunity to earn badges through Beanstack and to earn prizes in the library. Click on the link below to access directions for logging books into Beanstack. Beanstack can be accessed on a computer, tablet, or phone. The directions show how to log minutes or books on a computer.

We have had a busy year so far. In October, we will do our SLAM kick-off. SLAM stands for Student Literacy and Media. This is bringing literacy or books together with art and media projects. If you would like information on the SLAM books and completing projects for our showcase (in January), click on the links below for our 3-5 and K-2 SLAM letters.

- Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15). Students can answer trivia questions to participate in a raffle for prizes. We have display of Hispanic Heritage books for students to check out. - First grade had a week of Library Book Camp where they learned the rules of the library, how to take care of books, and how to find books that are just right for them. We ended book camp week checking out their first library books of the year.
- Kindergarten has started weekly library lessons. We start Kindergarten slowly to get the kids used to the library rules and book care rules. They will begin checking out a book in October.
- Pre-K, Ms. McCoy's class, and Ms. Viera's class has started story time. At the end of the story time they can check out a library book to enjoy in their classrooms.
