Biomedical Science Pathway
The Biomedical Pathway will prepare students to sit for their Biotechnician Credentialing Exam when they turn 18. This exam and curriculum was developed at the University of Florida and is administered through a company called Biotility, an industry leader in training and credentialing professionals in the biotechnology and bioscience industries. Due to the academic rigor and science courses in this pathway, students should feel confident in applying to any science or medical program at a 4-year university. Students who are interested in eventually going on to Medical School will want to choose undergraduate college majors such as Biology, Chemistry, or Nursing and should be sure to follow a pre-med track which includes 3 years of chemistry, physics, psychology, 4 years of biological sciences (anatomy, cell biology, microbiology), and higher level maths.
People who study biomedical sciences can go into many careers, some of which involve a high level of technical skills, utilizing computers for modeling, creating programs for evaluating data, and performing advanced scientific research. Biomedical technicians often work in hospitals, pharmaceutical research laboratories, labs to test and develop food for people and animals, medical labs researching new diseases and developing treatments and vaccines, and forensic labs to evaluate evidence.
