PLTW and STEM
Lockhart Elementary Magnet School students are immersed in hands-on activities, projects and problems that relate to the real world? Our vision at Lockhart Elementary Magnet School is to prepare students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, and responsible members of society through the integration of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
Engineer design process and scientific inquiry is used in the PLTW Launch program. PLTW Launch embeds ELA (English Language Arts), Math, Science, and Computer Science standards through an APB Approach to learning: Activity, Project, and Problem- Based Learning. Students will engage with PLTW engineering modules in the PLTW Lab.
Math involves solving real- world problems utilizing resources to analyze and graph data, create charts, calculate costs, examine trends, and construct models. Working in small groups with hands-on math manipulatives and technology. Provide real-world saving and spending experiences through the school’s token economy of earning Cougar Cash.
Science prepares students to discover concepts and dispel misconceptions as they investigate and explore in the classrooms and in our Learning Labs located around the campus.
