Mintz opened in 1991 on the campus of Kingswood Elementary and was named for Linda Hortense Mintz, a former teacher and principal. Our mascot is the Mariners. Inaugual faculty noted that the initials of Hortense Mintz School reminded them of the British Navy, inspiring our mascot. We use a ship's anchor to symbolize our mascot.
Mintz Elementary, serving the Heather Lakes and Providence Lakes subdivisions in Brandon, is a proud Leader in Me school. We teach and live Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits to allow students to learn and grow into leaders in their own lives.
In 2018, our students’ achievement earned our school an Exceeding Expectations Award from the East Coast Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC), an organization supporting Title I schools in over 40 of Florida’s school districts.
We believe that we can empower students to lead their own learning, and that educators and families partner to develop the whole person. As Mintz Mariners will tell you, “If you miss school, you miss OUT!”
