In 1967, the School Board of Hillsborough County approved a fifteen-acre site on Armand Drive in Town and County for the location of a new elementary school, called School “U”. Jim Shimberg, the developer of the Morgan Woods subdivision, donated the land. Morgan Woods School was later named for the subdivision. The school was the first elementary school in Hillsborough County designed using educational specifications, and was recognized by Nations School for its outstanding and innovative architectural features. The school colors and mascot were voted on by parents, students and faculty. Green and gold were chosen as the school colors and the tiger as the mascot.
