School History
-
Vivian Gaither High School opened on August 27, 1984 in northwest Hillsborough County, Florida. The school colors are silver, blue and white. Mr. Ronald Allen was the first principal who guided the school’s construction and hiring of the inaugural staff from a trailer on campus. A commitment to excellence was started by Mr. Allen and continues to be the driving force at Gaither High School.
Gaither High School was named in honor of a long-time Hillsborough County educator, Mr. Vivian Gaither. Mr. Gaither began his career in education as a teacher in a private boy’s school. After moving to Tampa, he became principal of several schools, including Wilson and Franklin Junior High School, Plant and finally Hillsborough High School in 1933. He was principal of Hillsborough High School, Tampa’s largest high school at the time, for 33 years.
Gaither High School
Alma MaterOn our city’s northern border,
Reaching towards the sky,
Proudly stand our alma mater,
Gaither Senior High.
Let our voices come together -
Hear the trumpet sound
and forever will the Cowboys
Always stand as one,
With the silver white and blue
