Helen Ayala Davis Elementary School is a public K-5 educational facility in the Hillsborough County Public School system. Helen Ayala Davis Elementary School opened in August of 2004 in west Hillsborough County. The new campus opened with nearly 95,000 square feet, Davis Elementary has 37 basic classrooms, a state-of-the art media center, computer labs, and more than 100 computers. In the summer of 2008, a new 10 classroom addition was added on the Davis school site to accommodate high growth and the class-size reduction regulations of Florida. Today, Davis Elementary has expanded technology upgrades to accommodate over 500 computers in labs, carts, and classrooms.
Helen Ayala Davis Elementary School began as an interagency agreement between The Children's Home, Inc. and the School District of Hillsborough County. Originally, this interagency agreement resulted in the formation of Parkhill School (established in 1980) which was located on the grounds of The Children's Home, Inc. In 2003, in an effort to meet the needs of these students and the surrounding community, The Children's Home, Inc., donated approximately 26 acres of land to the school district.
A new elementary school was established on this site in 2004, and it includes a wing for students with special needs. The new school was named for Helen Ayala Davis. She and her husband were instrumental in securing the land for The Children's Home. Mrs. Davis was a volunteer and philanthropist who worked diligently and touched the lives of many children and families throughout Hillsborough County. (photo courtesy of The Tampa Tribune)
