School History

  • Thonotosassa Elementary School opened its doors to students in 1963 at its present location. Prior to that time it had been a single building located on Main Street in downtown Thonotosassa. Thonotosassa, which means “Land of Flint,” was originally a Seminole Indian Territory. From 1963-2019, the school's mascot is the “Chiefs” and the school colors are blue and white. The school mascot was changed to the "Thunderbolts" at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. The colors were also changed to blue and yellow.
