Thonotosassa Elementary promotes student achievement by engaging and empowering students in a supportive and caring environment. Through quality standards-based lesson planning, we will challenge students to become problem solvers and future community leaders. The percent of our students making gains on standardized testing will increase annually through our focus on differentiated instruction, rigor, and progress monitoring.
We will all achieve success through hard work and good character. Working together, Thonotosassa will be a top performing school.
Thonotosassa Elementary School opened its doors to students in 1963 at its present location. Prior to that time it had been a single building located on Main Street in downtown Thonotosassa. Thonotosassa, which means “Land of Flint,” was originally a Seminole Indian Territory. From 1963-2019, the school's mascot is the “Chiefs” and the school colors are blue and white. The school mascot was changed to the "Thunderbolts" at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. The colors were also changed to blue and yellow.
