Community-Focused and Academically Driven

  • Burns Middle School is a high-scoring neighborhood school excelling in the Bloomingdale area. We offer award-winning Electives in performing and visual arts, plus Scholar Quest high school level courses in World Languages, Digital Information Technology and more. Our new Aerospace Technology program teaches students to fly drones along with learning the history of aviation. For more than 15 straight years, Burns has earned an "A” grade from the state. We’re proud of the community we create through clubs, sports teams and volunteering, including fundraising to build a water well in Africa. Our Sixth Grade Structure helps students feel at home in their new learning environment. A Burns Bruin is a well-rounded student, who is community-focused and academically motivated.

School History

  • Burns Middle School opened in 1986 as Burns Junior High School. Ten years later the school was restructured as a middle school. The school was named after Guy O. Burns, known as “Pop” Burns, a Hillsborough County educator, coach, and assistant principal. The Burns' Bruins colors are navy blue, maroon, and white.
