Anderson Elementary School was dedicated on March 4, 1956.  The school was named after John G. Anderson (1884-1954), who came to Tampa in 1907.  Mr. Anderson was very active during his time in Tampa. He was:

• Chairman of the Hillsborough County School Board from 1923 to 1930.
• Chairman of the Tampa Electric Board from 1936 to 1939
• A founder of the University of Tampa
• Charter member of the Tampa Rotary Club
