School History

  • Lithia Springs Elementary School was opened on August 20, 1992 and officially dedicated on April 13, 1993. The school was designed by the architectural firm Rowe, Holmes, Hammer and Russell of Tampa and built by Angle and Schmid of St. Petersburg, Florida. Arvida / JMB Partners, the developers of the River Hills residential community, gave $100,000 to the Hillsborough County School Board to develop the site.

Lithia Springs sits on approximately 32 acres of land, 23 of which are fenced in. The school has 47 classrooms, a multi-purpose room with built in stage and a 3,000 square foot Media Center. In all, the building contains 84,500 square feet with a capacity of 855 students.

Ms. Constance S. Gilbert was the Charter Principal who selected the school colors of teal, black and white as well as the school mascot, the lynx. Ms. Gilbert explained that the colors were selected based on the color of the building. The mascot was chosen by students attending several other school that would become Lithia Springs students. At the time, several bobcats had been spotted on the grounds where the school was built, the lynx is a special kind of bobcat.
