Burns Middle School is a close-knit neighborhood school in the Bloomingdale area. We offer award-winning Electives in performing and visual arts, plus Scholar Quest high school level courses in World Languages, Robotics, Coding, Digital Information Technology and more. Our Aerospace Technology program teaches students to fly drones along with learning the history of aviation. For more than 17 straight years, Burns has earned an "A” grade from the state. We’re proud of the community we create through clubs, sports teams, and volunteering. There is an inclusive culture at Burns. Our sixth-grade structure helps students feel at home in their new learning environment. A Burns Bruin is a well-rounded student, who is community-focused and academically motivated.
Burns Middle School opened in 1986 as Burns Junior High School. Ten years later the school was restructured as a middle school. The school was named after Guy O. Burns, known as “Pop” Burns, a Hillsborough County educator, coach, and assistant principal. The Burns' Bruins colors are navy blue, maroon, and white. Our motto is “the best leading the rest.”
