School History

Sulphur Springs K-8 Community School was originally built in 1926 and has served the Sulphur Springs Community for over 85 years. We are a true community school with strong partnerships, including the YMCA and the Sulphur Springs Neighborhood of Promise (SSNOP). Students who attend SSK8 have the opportunity to enroll in the site-based YMCA program where after-school extracurricular activities and focused tutoring sessions are provided. Together, the YMCA and the school sponsor several parent involvement and community events, including monthly Dinner and Dialogue meetings and annual larger events such as Gardenfest, Family Math Night, and Multicultural Night, to name a few. In addition, we also have the Norma and Joseph Robinson Partnership Library adjoined to our school media center. This is a public library operated by the City of Tampa and is open to our students, staff, and neighborhood three days per week.
Sulphur Springs K-8 Community School provides a quality education to approximately 778 students in Head Start through eighth grade. Our staff consists of about 110 members, including instructional and support personnel. Our curriculum is based on the Florida Standards.
Teachers utilize a variety of resources, materials, and techniques to ensure all children receive instruction that will meet his/her needs. Typically, a teacher will differentiate their instruction, meaning making adjustments to their lessons, based on the needs of students in the classroom. This is to ensure that all students’ needs are met, no matter what the child’s instructional level.
