Grover Cleveland Elementary was erected in 1926 to serve the growing population of Seminole Heights. The Florida Land Boom of the 1920's, which quadrupled the population of Hillsborough County, increased new school construction at an unprecedented pace. Over 20 new schools were added to accommodate the growth.
Cleveland's original brick structure cost $128,000 and opened to 400 students and 10 teachers in 1926. The first principal, Mrs. Mattie Mason, quickly developed the school and by 1927 earned the designation of "Superior Standard School".
The school's rich history includes an early story of the PTA members contributing 10 cents a month for the purchase of a piano.
