For Immediate Release
Tampa, Fl. (February 26, 2026) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Sara Bogue as Director of Athletics, making her the first woman to serve in this role in district history.
Bogue brings extensive experience in interscholastic athletics and a strong commitment to student‑athlete success. She succeeds Lanness Robinson, who was named Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission in December.
Bogue began her career with the district as a physical education teacher at Newsome High School, where she also served as the varsity girls' basketball coach and was named Western Conference Coach of the Year. She later held leadership roles as assistant principal for student affairs at Lennard High School and Bloomingdale High School.
Most recently, she served as assistant principal for administration at Bloomingdale High School, overseeing athletic programs, facility operations, and campus safety and security. She led Bloomingdale to its first ever Vernon Korhn Athletic Program of the Year award.
In her new role, she will oversee the district’s comprehensive athletics program, supporting schools, coaches, and student‑athletes while ensuring compliance with state and district guidelines.
Hillsborough County Public Schools offers 24 high school sports programs—12 for boys and 12 for girls—and 10 middle school sports programs, evenly split between boys and girls. In total, more than 14,000 students participate in athletics across the district.
Hillsborough County Public Schools’ athletics program plays a vital role in developing leadership, teamwork, and character among students, while promoting academic achievement and sportsmanship.
Sara is widely respected for her collaborative approach, deep knowledge of middle and high school athletics, and dedication to providing meaningful opportunities for students. As Director of Athletics, she will continue to strengthen athletic programs across the district and support the success of student‑athletes both on and off the field.
“I am incredibly honored to be appointed as the new Director of Athletics for Hillsborough County Public Schools. Having served in Hillsborough County for the past 20 years as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal, I have witnessed firsthand the powerful impact athletics can have on our students, as well as on their families and the broader community. I am excited to get started and am dedicated to continuing to grow our athletic programs at both the middle and high school levels, while strengthening our partnerships with the community to elevate student success through athletic opportunities. Thank you to the School Board, Superintendent Ayres, and his Cabinet for their trust and support throughout this transition. I look forward to the work we will accomplish together,” said Sara Bogue, Director of Athletics.
