Tampa, Fl. (May 1, 2024) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud to announce that four of our Magnet Schools have been selected for the prestigious Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished Program Recognition Award. This year’s honorees include:
Lockhart Elementary Magnet School
Stewart Middle Magnet School
Young Middle Magnet School
Middleton High School
This marks a significant achievement as it is only the second occasion in the district’s history that a school has won this award, the first was Young Middle Magnet in 2018.
Project Lead the Way is an organization that empowers students to develop in-demand, transportable skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. In addition, training and resources are also provided to support teachers as they engage their students in real-world learning.
“This is an exciting year with the most awards we’ve received in our district’s history, a testament to our ongoing efforts to create an engaging and academically stimulating environment for our students,” said Van Ayres, Hillsborough County Public Schools Superintendent. “I am so proud of our teachers, administrators, support staff, and students for this remarkable recognition.”
In addition to the school recognitions, our district has several individuals who received nominations for national PLTW awards:
National PLTW Teacher of the Year - Megan McGregor, Lead Teacher from Lockhart Elementary Magnet
National Administrator of the Year, school-based - Rashad Woods, Principal of The Medical Academy at D.W. Waters
National Administrator of the Year, district-based - Bob Cox, Supervisor, Magnet Schools and Programs
The results for these individual awards will be announced this fall.
All honorees will be celebrated at the upcoming Fall PLTW conference.
