Tampa, Fla. – (April 5, 2024) – Hillsborough County Public Schools joins Hillsborough Education Foundation to host the 3rd Annual Race for Education 5K on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels are invited for a fun-filled race down North Boulevard and over the Hillsborough River. The 5K race starts and ends at Blake High School located at 1701 N Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33607.
Awards will be given to overall male, overall female and by age group: first, second, and third place. There is also a 1-mile option for families, children, and walkers. The 5K race begins at 8:00 a.m., the 1-mile walk/run begins at 9:00 a.m.
Superintendent Van Ayres and school board members will be joined by City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor to welcome runners and recognize the winners.
Over 1,000 have already registered for this year’s race – the most the event has registered since it began three years ago. The race was created as part of the Healthy Schools program spurred by School Board Member Lynn Gray.
Along the race route, our amazing student musicians will provide musical entertainment for motivation: Plant High School - Drum Line, Ballast Point Elementary – Bucket Drumming, Lanier Elementary – World Drumming, Coleman Middle School – Jazz Band, Thonotosassa Elementary – World Drumming, and Lockhart Elementary - Drum Line.
This year’s presenting sponsor is Suncoast Credit Union. Other sponsors include Aetna, Farah & Farah, Shumaker Advisors, BayCare, Tampa General Hospital, Corebridge Financial, Dunkin', Boy Scouts of America –Greater Tampa Bay Chapter, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, AMI Kids, The Jeep Depot, and Gulf Coast Plastics.
